Research Interests

I am interested in the evolution of short term (~hourly) atmospherical phenomena over long time spans. Specifically, I am currently observing the occurrence of thunderstorms throughout the years. Since historical records tend to only measure temperature and pressure, maybe humidity, I am building an algorithm to detect past thunderstorms based on the temperature and pressure profiles. This is done with more recent data that includes more extensive meteorological measurements, such as humidity and wind speed and thunderstorms themselves. This algorithm is allowing us to identify thunderstorms in the past and thus make statements about their frequency and intensity, reaching back far into the 20th century thanks to the digitization efforts of the Ishii group.
