- With Prof. Hiroo Kanamori, working on a method of rapid automatic program to locate and determine magnitudes of moderate and large regional earthquakes from a single seismometer.

- With Prof. Joann Stock (September 1991-June 1992), worked on
borehole data for Los Angeles to find breakouts and then determine
stress regime.
- With Prof. Göran Ekström (June 1992-June 1993), developed
modified version of Brian Kennett's reflectivity code, used code to
invert for moment tensors for earthquakes in Siberia
- With Profs. Ekström and Jeroen Tromp (June 1993-June 1994),
studied surface wave data to determine global maps of lateral variations
of phase velocity
